This car camera rig is a very handy piece of kit and can enable you to get cameras into all sorts of interesting places. It’s only really suitable for lighter weight cameras. You can get away with a stripped down Sony F5 with a prime lens on it or an Alexa Mini with a prime and obviously anything smaller or lighter. It is very important when using any suction mount to make sure you have safety lines. The easiest way is to use cargo straps. These should be arranged in such a way that if the suction mounts fail, the camera is not destroyed and it doesn’t go through the windscreen of the car. When you put on the suction mounts, make sure that the little blue plastic pump bits are visible from inside. They have a line on them so that if they start to lose suction you see the line appear and then you have a few seconds to stop and sort it out.
